Dr. Luther King earned a Master of Occupational Therapy from Chicago State University (CSU) in 2008 and a Post-Professional Doctorate from Governors State University in 2016. He began his academic career in 2017 as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida, focusing on driver rehabilitation research with returning combat veterans. He also helped establish a driver rehabilitation program serving the Gainesville, FL area.
In 2020, Dr. King joined Governors State University as an Assistant Professor, emphasizing a pedagogy of care to foster meaningful student connections and collaborative learning across disciplines. His research in driver rehabilitation has resulted in peer-reviewed publications and presentations at local and national conferences. He is actively engaged in service at institutional, state, and national levels, holding leadership roles on professional committees.
Dr. King serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy at CSU, his alma mater. His vision is to position CSU’s OT program as a leading force in the Chicagoland area, producing competent, professional, and community-focused practitioners. He also aims to develop a community-based driver rehabilitation program to enhance student learning and improve mobility for medically at-risk drivers.
