BS to MOT: Combined Degree Program
Chicago State University offers a professional program in Occupational Therapy which
allows students in the combined BS/MOT sequence to complete both degrees within 5
years.

Occupational Therapy Pathway Admissions
Your path from undergraduate study to the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) Program.
Step 1: Apply to Chicago State University
- Apply to Chicago State University as an undergraduate student.
- Declare the Health Sciences – Pre-Occupational Therapy Pathway major.
- Meet with a Pre-Health Advisor to develop your academic plan.
Step 2: Complete the OT Pathway Requirements
- Complete general education and 9 prerequisite courses with a grade of C or better
(Students may retake prerequisites to improve their grade point average, but cannot
take or repeat an OT prerequisite course more than twice to obtain a passing grade.)
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative and prerequisite GPA
- Complete 40 hours of human service and OT observation experience and document on the
Human Service/OT Observation Form [link to form]. Human service experience is not
limited to OT and may include work, volunteer, personal, or community service experiences.
- Attend an information session with OT Admissions Coordinator, and Interview with OT
faculty.
Students who meet these requirements receive a qualification letter and begin the
OT course sequence with the Fall cohort.
Step 3: Apply to the MOT Graduate Program
During senior year, students must:
- Meet with their OT Advisor to learn what needs to be included in the graduate application
- Apply to the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program through OTCAS
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 credit hours
Step 4: Begin the MOT Graduate Program
After completing the BS in Health Sciences – OT Pathway and meeting admission requirements,
students receive advanced standing and may apply up to 32 undergraduate credit hours
of foundational OT coursework toward their degree requirements.
Students transition into the graduate MOT program and complete the remaining coursework
(one year) to earn the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) degree.
