East Chicago Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the School City of East Chicago and the College of Education at Chicago State University (CSU) represents a strategic initiative to address critical teacher shortages in underserved communities. The initiative targets individuals employed with emergency teacher permits or as paraprofessionals and teacher aides. This program facilitates their pursuit of a bachelor's degree and teacher licensure by covering all associated expenses. As the designated Education Preparation Provider, CSU's College of Education is committed to equipping aspiring teachers with the knowledge, skills, and disposition necessary for success. Launching in the Summer of 2024, this partnership promises to bolster the supply of certified teachers, thereby enhancing educational opportunities and outcomes in communities in need. This collaborative effort underscores a shared dedication to improving education through accessible, high-quality teacher preparation.
