![]() Rahul Garg, PhD, M.Pharm, B.Pharm, is an Assistant Professor of Social and Administrative Sciences at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Garg received his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Delhi University, India (2008) and Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutics from Banaras Hindu University, India (2010). He then worked for 2 years as a Junior Manager to develop generic drug formulations at Dr. Reddy’s Pharmaceuticals ltd. in Hyderabad, India. Following this, Dr. Garg completed his PhD in Health Economics and Outcomes Research from West Virginia University (2017). After his doctorate degree, Dr. Garg worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at Novartis, New Jersey and completed a research fellowship with the National Sleep Foundation. Dr. Garg’s expertise includes data analysis of large secondary databases such as health insurance claims and national health surveys. He is also trained and experienced in conducting survey research by designing survey scales to collect primary data. Dr. Garg’s research interests include understanding the factors associated with opioid abuse, dependence, and overdose among high-risk individuals in the US. He is also interested in increasing the rates of adherence with medication assisted treatment (MAT) among individuals addicted with opioids. Dr. Garg is a member of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). |
Melany P. Puglisi, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chicago
State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). She received her B.A. in chemistry
from Southampton College, now part of Long Island University, in 1991. Her graduate
studies were carried out at the University of Guam where she received her M.S. in
Biology in 1995 and the University of Mississippi, School of Pharmacy where she received
her Ph.D. in pharmacognosy. After two years of postdoctoral studies at Scripps Institution
of Oceanography, she joined the new pharmacy program at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic
Medicine as a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. After
a short time, she left Erie to pursue research efforts at the Smithsonian Marine Station
in Fort Pierce, Florida followed by Shannon Point Marine Laboratory in Anacortes,
Washington where she established a research program in marine microbial chemical ecology.
In 2008, she joined Chicago State University as a founding faculty member in the College
of Pharmacy. She has received recognition from the student pharmacists for her teaching
as Teacher of the Year and Faculty Preceptor of the Year. She received the CSU Service
Excellence Award and CSU Research Excellence Award. In 2016, she joined the Editorial
Board of the Journal of Natural Products as the Book Review Editor. She serves a
member of the Executive Committee of the American Society of Pharmacognosy and as
Secretary to the ASP Foundation. She co-chaired the 2019 ASP Annual Meeting in Madison,
Wisconsin. Her research interests involve the chemical interactions between benthic
marine organisms and microorganisms. She has participated in numerous research expeditions
in the tropical Atlantic and Pacific including the 2005 NOAA Florida Coast Deep Corals
research cruise. She has numerous publications in algal, invertebrate and microbial
chemical ecology.

Nicole Richardson is the Learning Specialist for the Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Ms. Richardson holds a Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Concentration: Education & Psychology) from Governors State University. Ms. Richardson began her career at Chicago State University as an Academic Advisor and Academic Support Specialist for Chemistry, Physics, Pre-Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science and Criminal Justice majors in 2016. Ms. Richardson joined the College of Pharmacy in her current position in 2019
