Evanston twin sisters now both are ‘chief’

Evanston Township High School today is celebrating twin sisters, 1992 graduates, who now are both police chiefs.

Schenita Stewart has been chief here in Evanston since 2022 and Schonella Stewart this week was named police chief in Beloit, Wisconsin.

Schonella Stewart has worked for the past 19 years as a police officer in Oak Park, most recently as investigations commander. She also holds a master’s degree in social work from Chicago State University.

Schenita Stewart was deputy police chief in East Dundee when she was named to head the Evanston Department. She had previously risen to the role of deputy chief in the Lincolnwood Police Department and holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Chicago State.

Both women are also graduates of the School of Police Staff and Command program at Northwestern University.
