CHICAGO, IL— Dr. Nadeem Fazal, MD, PhD, a Professor of Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Chicago State University, College of Health Sciences and Pharmacy has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in Medical Sciences to Azerbaijan for the 2026-2027 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

The Fulbright Scholar Award has been conferred in the Teaching category within the broader field of Medical Sciences. His proposed project is titled “The Art and Science of Teaching and Learning in the Digital World of Education.” This work will focus on advancing innovative pedagogical approaches in medical education, integrating digital tools, competency-based frameworks, and global best practices to enhance teaching, assessment, and student learning outcomes.
During the Fulbright program at Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku, Azerbaijan, Dr. Fazal plans to engage in curriculum development, faculty training, and collaborative educational research. The emphasis will be on modernizing medical education delivery through digital transformation, strengthening competency-based learning, and fostering international academic collaboration.
Chicago State University has hosted three Fulbright scholars and has had the honor of 24 CSU faculty members participate as Fulbright U.S. Scholars. We look forward to continuing to support Dr. Fazal in pursuing excellence through innovative teaching, research and community partnerships, as affirmed through our mission.
Dr. Fazal is honored to receive the Fulbright U.S. Scholar award and wishes to share the following: Digital health technologies have progressed from basic Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) programs to advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR)/Augmented Reality (AR), and this evolution will be central to my teaching and research activities during the award period. Using blockchain-based academic credentialing could securely store and verify student achievements, research projects, and clinical training records. This method would promote transparency, integrity, and international recognition of Azerbaijani medical education credentials.
