Chicago State Men’s Tennis and Women’s Golf Earn NCAA APR Public Recognition

Chicago State teams are two of 18 WAC teams to earn the public recognition

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men’s tennis and women’s golf teams have been recognized with the NCAA’s Public Recognition Award for finishing in the top 10 percent of all squads based on the most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rates (APR) after the 2018-19 academic year. 

This is the second time the men’s tennis squad under the direction of Jack Barton has earned the recognition while this is the first recognition for women’s golf under the guidance of Angela Rayhill. Women’s tennis also earned the honor in 2011-12. 

The Cougar squads join 18 other WAC teams that were recognized with the NCAA public Recognition honor. 

A total of 1,380 Division I teams from 326 schools received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for the 2018-19 academic year. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
