English Language Program
Online ESL is a certificate program for students of all English levels. Online ESL
classes are open to non-native speakers of English who have a serious desire to improve
their language skills. This challenging program is useful for working professionals
and students preparing for university study or professional programs. Because all
courses are offered completely online, students can learn from Chicago State University's
experienced instructors without leaving their home and work.
Structure of the Online ESL Program
- Four levels of classes
- Two online live class meetings (1 hour and 40 minutes long) each week (recorded class
videos available if students miss a live class session)
- Classes offered in five sessions each year; each session is eight weeks long.
- Individual consultations available
- Small Classes with an average of 6 students.
4 Levels
Classes are based on an integrated-skills approach with listening, speaking, reading,
writing and grammar components. There are four levels in the Online ESL Program.
- Low Intermediate (CEFR B1)
- Level 3
- Level 4
- High Intermediate (CEFR B2)
- Level 5
- Level 6
Test Preparation Courses
Test preparation courses are also available.
- Test Prep 1 - Understand the test and learn foundational skills to answer questions in each skills
area
- Test Prep 2 - Focused practice and drilling to reach maximum score possible
Tuition and Fee
- Tuition and fee for the Online ESL is $450 per 8-week session. The amount includes
technology fee, online placement test, and textbooks and online learning materials.
Additional Information
- This program does not grant I-20 for student visas.
- Students successfully completing Level 6 will receive a program certificate.
- Students who do not finish Level 6 will receive a course certificate for each course
completed.
- New students must take the online placement test and attend the online orientation
and technology session.
