New Report Ranks CSU Top In the Nation on Black Student Access and Success

(Chicago, IL) – A new report card from the University of Southern California's (USC) Race and Equity Center ranks Chicago State University as tied for #2 in the nation and #1 in Illinois for leading public universities in educating Black undergraduates. The study examined representation, gender and completion equity at the 506 public four-year colleges and universities in the United States.

The report noted, there are more than 900,000 Black undergraduates enrolled at public colleges and universities across the United States.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for the important contribution Chicago State University continues to make in giving access to higher education opportunities to minority communities,” said, Zaldwaynaka Scott, President of Chicago State University. “Access is the core of our mission, which is why we invest in student support services, programs and academic research opportunities that positively work to develop students beyond the classroom, further shaping their educational experience and outcomes for success”.

The Center published the report with the goal to make inequities more transparent and to equip stakeholders concerned about enrollment, success, and college completion rates for Black students with numbers they can use to demand corrective policies and institutional actions.

Chicago State University has notably led the charge of educating and graduating Black undergraduates; thus improving inequities within higher education to provide more opportunities for black students and other underrepresented groups.
