Freshman Leadership Institute 2018

Freshman Leadership Institute 2018On August 15, 2018, the Division of Student Affairs hosted it's 3rd Annual Freshman Leadership Institute (FLI). The Freshman Leadership Institute is a three-day new student retreat, designed to help freshmen transition into college. During FLI students learn about university traditions, campus life and the Chicago State experience.

Student participants stayed in the University residence hall and participated in workshops to learn more about team building, critical thinking, personal branding, and communications. They also partnered with seasoned student leaders during group projects to foster peer to peer relationships and expand their network of friendships. A key component of the FLI experience is the convocation, which is an annual tradition where new students are officially inducted into their graduating class. It is a celebration of the higher learning experience and CSU traditions. During the ceremony students gathered with their classmates and officially joined the academic community; thus marking one of the few times the class of 2022 will gather together prior to graduation. This year’s theme was Rewrite Your Life. Freshmen were pinned and received an inspirational message from 9X Grammy nominated, multi platinum producer and songwriter Marcos "Kosine" Palacios.

The three day retreat concluded with a scavenger hunt in Chicago, where students explored the city while learning about historical landmarks.

The Freshman Leadership Institute was amazing and we look forward to all that the class of 2022 will contribute to Chicago State University.
