Major in International Studies

Welcome to the International Studies Program at Chicago State University. The program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies with concentration in:

  • International Economics and Business
  • International Relations/Comparative Government/International Law
  • International History, Culture and Society
  • Foreign Languages and Literatures
  • International Public Health
  • International Environmental Studies and GIS 

Additional areas under review including:  

  • International Sustainable Development
  • International Homeland and Cyber Security
  • International Media Arts, Theater and Movie Production 

The IS program also offers a minor sequence in International Studies for students majoring in other disciplines.

As an interdisciplinary degree program, International Studies at CSU prepares future professionals for high quality performance in the global arena by offering multicultural perspectives on international phenomena. With substantive theoretical and methodological skills from a variety of disciplines of students’ interests, IS majors possess invaluable skills that are sought after by a world that is very thirsty for global engagement and has become smaller and more interactive than ever before. As such, the importance of a degree in IS cannot be overemphasized in this expanding era of multiculturalism and globalization.  

Our program has a strong service-learning component for internship with global organizations and study-abroad exchange training thus, providing the students the skills necessary to compete exceptionally in our ever-growing global society as they effectively tackle some of the most precarious issues of our time. 

Program graduates acquire the fundamental analytic skills and intellectual capacity necessary to critically analyze international affairs with a more inclusive mindset and a broader worldview. Our students, faculty and alumni research, analyze, evaluate and respond effectively to domestic and global issues with an acute understanding of global cultures. 

With a degree in IS, graduates go on to have a variety of careers in politics, government, economics, business, law, journalism, non-governmental organizations, engineering, public health, social services, environmental sustainability, intelligence and cyber security, or other advanced degree or specialty.
