CSU Student Athletes Receive Preseason All-WAC Accolades

CHICAGO – Two Chicago State University men's basketball players were recently recognized by College Sports Madness as senior guard/forward Trayvon Palmer(Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) and sophomore guard Fred Sims, Jr. (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) were selected to the Madness Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference Fourth Team.

Palmer recorded averages of 9.5 points, a team-leading 7.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game for CSU last season while ranking among the WAC leaders in several categories, including fourth in total rebounds.

He produced 13 double-digit scoring games and five (point-rebound) double-doubles on the year in addition to ranking among the school's Division I career rebounding leaders. Last season, Palmer was named Second Team Preseason All-WAC by the Madness.

Heading into his second season with the Green and White, Sims, Jr. led the team in scoring last year with 10.9 points a game while recording 16 double figure scoring contests. He also recorded three 20-point games, including a career-best 26 points twice against DePaul and Marquette.M

Sims, Jr. ranked 18th in the WAC in scoring for all games in addition to ranking 17th in the league in scoring (11.3 ppg) for conference games.

The WAC's preseason all-conference awards from the coaches and media will be released by the league in mid-October.

CSU opens its 2016-17 campaign on Nov. 12 against Illinois Tech in its homecoming game at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
