CSU Welcomes Lt. General Russell Honore as part of Emergency Preparedness Conference

Chicago State University recently hosted the 21st Century Community Emergency Preparedness Conference at the Jones Convocation Center. More than 300 attendees, many from military academies and Junior ROTC programs from around Chicago gathered to learn from guests speakers with experience managing a crisis. 

The keynote speaker was Lt. General Russell Honore (USAR, Ret). Lt. General Honore is best known as the former commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, which led the recovery efforts in New Orleans after the 2005 hurricane. Guest speaker  Anthony Velasquez III from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security  also spoke. 

Lt. General Honore discussed concepts of leadership necessary to manage difficult situations and the importance of awareness and preparedness training starting at a young age. He encouraged the young people in attendance to be leaders in their community in creating a culture of preparedness.
