Faculty Guideline

Great Wall

The Office of International Programs (OIP) at Chicago State University (CSU) is pleased to present to you this faculty guide to international programming. It is intended to provide general information and guidance for faculty interested in facilitating international programs abroad.

The OIP works corroboratively with all offices, departments and programs interested in developing international initiatives.

All projects abroad have great potential to benefit CSU students, thereby increasing and enhancing CSU's role in the global community. To advance these efforts, it is important that the OIP be actively involved with the planning and implementation of all international projects at their inception. Additionally, it is important that OIP and university policies are carefully adhered to regarding students traveling out of the country. Such adherence benefits the students, faculty and the university as a whole.

OIP Requirements and CSU Policy

In order to facilitate international and study abroad programs, faculty and administrators:

  • interested in identifying international programs or activities must meet with an OIP staff member or the Director to discuss the project.
  • must submit in writing the overall goals and objectives of their proposals. Must advise the OIP at least two semesters prior to the implementation of the program for on-site visitation and approval.
  • must verify student ability in the program of study.(See Guide to Studying Abroad)
  • cannot contract agreement or memorandum of understanding with foreign institutions for CSU. The OIP and CSU's Office of Legal Affairs are the designated offices that oversea such activities.
  • who act as on-site coordinators, while abroad, must contact the OIP within the first two days upon arrival either by e-mail, telephone or fax.
  • who act as on-site coordinators must submit written evaluations of the program to the OIP Director upon their return to CSU.
  • will be paid an agreed upon stipend

Note: Only full-time faculty and administrators may initiate study abroad programs.
