Undocumented Students

Welcome

It is our pleasure to welcome you to our website.

Over the years, Chicago State University has made significant progress in eliminating barriers for undocumented students, and it is important to highlight the activism of the founders of the Undocumented, Resilient, and Organized (URO) student club, which was the catalyst for the creation of visible systems of support for undocumented students across the University.

With the creation of the Undocumented Student Resources, we strive to continue addressing the concerns, needs, and development of our undocumented students, and the faculty and staff who work with them on a daily basis. We do this by providing students with one-on-one life advising, connecting students with University and external resources, providing purposeful programming, training our faculty and staff, connecting with community-based organizations and immigration experts, establishing connections with high schools and community colleges, and sharing our best practices with other institutions of higher education.

While you may find answers to many of your questions as you tour our website, we encourage you to reach us at insert email here with your questions or comments.

Mission Statement

The vision of Chicago State includes to embrace, engage, educate, propel and elevate our students and community to transform lives locally and globally.  And this vision includes students who are currently undocumented or DACA recipients.  For our undocumented immigrant community, we want to make sure you are aware of our internal and external resources available to support you during this time.  CSU has a range of resources where students can access professional academic counseling, mental health support, and peer support.

The Division of Student Affairs upholds the mission and vision of CSU and its commitment to diversity.  We respect and value the different backgrounds of our diverse scholars and community. Chicago State University seeks to provide services to support each student to successfully matriculate to degree completion.

CSU does not collect any information on a student’s DACA status, and we will continue to protect all other confidential student and employee information to the fullest extent allowed by law. The CSU Police will not inquire about or detain community members based solely on immigration status.

Goals

Our strategic goals for undocumented student services are: (1) to promote diversity on campus, thus identify, enhance, and expand student services to a more diverse population that includes DACA students, (2) to create, communicate, and sustain an inclusive and welcoming university admissions that encourage undocumented students’ enrollment, and (3) to improve student retention and graduation through providing appropriate information and resources that can ensure undocumented student success.
