The Office of the First Year Experience was created to provide support and encouragement for students beginning with their first day of orientation to the final day of their first year at Chicago State University. 

Welcome New Cougars!

Welcome to Chicago State University! We are pleased that you have decided to further your education at our institution. As a new student we know that you are eager to get started. Cougar Start U- New Student Orientation will provide you with needed information, resources, and tools to begin your transition. It will also give you insight on life as a Cougar.

Cougar Start U- New Student Orientation is required for all newly admitted students. Freshmen are not allowed to register for classes until they have completed Cougar Start U- New Student Orientation. 

Registering for Cougar Start U: You must log into your Cougar Connect via You will need your CSU username and password to register for your orientation date.

Placement Exams:  You must take your placement exams before attending Cougar Start U- New Student Orientation.  You will not be given a registration appointment or allowed to see an advisor without your placement test scores. Placement exams are given in the Examinations Testing Lab in Douglas Hall, Room 119, and you should consult available testing days and times on the Office of Examinations. Please make an appointment to take your placement exams using the link under the calendar that notes the available testing times.
