Occupational Therapy

occupational therapyThe Department of Occupational Therapy at Chicago State University (CSU) has a long and distinguished history.  The University was founded in 1867, and the occupational therapy program has been continually accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education since 1984. Our many graduates work as skilled clinicians, managers, entrepreneurs, and educators throughout the country.

Our diverse and dedicated faculty members all have strong backgrounds in clinical practice, academic scholarship, and professional service. Members of our faculty hold leadership positions within the profession, and they have published and presented at national and international conferences. The faculty is committed to providing quality educational opportunities to our students. We include fieldwork experiences in every semester of our curriculum. While students have opportunities to work in traditional settings, we also ensure that all students have fieldwork experiences in innovative community based programs. All of these experiences are structured to help students to apply classroom concepts in real world situations.

Our students are a diverse group of individuals with a range of cultural backgrounds, ages, and life experiences. They are committed to their education and to community service. They are friendly and supportive of each other. Our faculty, staff and students work together to create a community that supports learning and personal growth.

Occupational therapists can look forward to a growing job market that offers practitioners a variety of opportunities to help individuals do what they find most meaningful. I encourage you to carefully review the information on this website. I am certain that you will agree that Chicago State University is an exceptional program for preparing students to do creative work in traditional practice settings as well as create innovative programs in emerging areas of practice.
