What is Career Advising?

A one-on-one appointment with a Career Development Specialist to assist with the following:

  • Assess interest, values, goals and strengths and how these connect to careers and majors
  • The editing of career-related documents, such as resumes and cover letters.
  • Proving mock interviews to assess strengths and weaknesses in interview skills
  • Provide resources to assist with career searching

Career Development Specialists cannot do the following:

  • Tell students what career (or major) is a good fit for them
  • Perform job and internship placement for students
  • Write resumes and cover letters for students
  • Provide academic advising for students

Advising appointments vary in length of time, but typically last between 30 to 60 minutes. Appointment can take place in-person in the Career Development Center (CRSUB 230) or over the phone.
