CSU Emergency Scholar Grant – Spring & Summer 2020 Terms

Eligibility Requirements to receive Emergency Assistance funds through

 

CARES Act:

  • Be a US Citizen or  eligible non-citizen
  • Have completed a 2019-20 FAFSA
  • Be enrolled for term in which funds are being requested (Spring 2020 or Summer 2020)
  • Be admitted to a degree seeking program
  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
  • Have not already received a prior disbursement of emergency funds through the CARES Act or from Chicago State Foundation during current semester (See five examples below)

 CSU Foundation:

  • Not be a US citizen or  eligible non-citizen or eligible for Title IV funds

  • Be enrolled for  term in which funds are being requested (Spring 2020 or Summer 2020)

  • Be admitted to a degree seeking program

  • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements

  • Have not already received a prior disbursement of emergency funds through the CARES Act or from  Chicago State Foundation during  current semester (See five examples below)

 

5 Eligibility Examples:

You:

  1. Received a disbursement for spring term and are enrolled in  summer term, you are eligible to apply for summer funds only.
  2. Received a disbursement for spring term and are not enrolled in  summer term, you are not eligible to apply for additional funds.
  3. Were enrolled in spring term, but did not receive funds in the spring term, then you are permitted to apply for spring funds.
  4. Were enrolled in spring term and are enrolled in summer term, but did not receive funds in the spring term, you are permitted to apply for spring and summer funds.
  5. Were not enrolled in spring term and are enrolled in summer term, you are permitted to apply for summer funds only.

Ineligible Students

You are not eligible to receive Emergency Assistance funds from either source if you are one of the following:

  • Not enrolled in credit bearing classes
  • A dual credit student
  • Enrolled in continuing education certificate programs
  • Enrolled as a student-at-large

About the Fund

  • Maximum amount a student can receive for their first grant award is $500, and any subsequent grant award will have a maximum of $250.

  • Award is a one-time payout per semester.

  • Disbursement dates depend on when students submit their application and internal timelines.

  • CARES Act funds will be paid to eligible applicants until funds are exhausted.

  • If you are not eligible for CARES Act funds, your requested funds will come from Foundation donations if eligible.

  • Award is not a loan and does not need to be paid back.

  • Check your CSU email for information regarding disbursement.

Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students Disclosure:

CSU officially acknowledges that we have signed and returned to the United States Department of Education (US DoEd) Certification and Agreement for this program. We further assure that CSU has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

  • TOTAL Amount of Funds Received from the Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students: $1,086,007
  • TOTAL Amount of Funds Disbursed to Students (as of 6/15/2020): $839,500
  • ESTIMATED TOTAL of Title IV Eligible Students: 2,000
  • TOTAL Number of Recorded Responses for these Funds: 2,591
  • TOTAL Number of Students who have been found eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act: 1,679
  • TOTAL Number of Students who have, to date, received payment of an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act: 1,679
