2011 Graduate & Professional Students Research Presentation Event Success!

The Graduate & Professional Studies Interdisciplinary Research Presentation was held on Monday, May 2nd in the New Academic Library of the Chicago State University. Over 60 graduate and professional students, faculty, staff and special guests attended the day long event.
The Research Presentation is an opportunity for student researchers on the graduate level to gain experience presenting scientific papers, develope effective communication skills in the dissemination of research information, and to demonstrate poise and mental agility before peers.
Thirteen students participated in this years event, either individually or, part of a team. Each presenter was allowed twenty minutes to present their research succinctly to a panel of judges and audience members. Presentations were followed by a question and answer period, and ended with a judges review and critique that all students found valuable. Audience members were also engaged at this time, and asked additional questions that related to student work.
Special guests of the event included Dr. John Bradley, Program Director of the Chicago Area Health and Medical Careers Program (CHAMPS), and seven graduate students of the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) program. Dr. Badley brought twelve CHAMPS participants to the event as well as two guest researchers. GIS students were invited to discuss their participation in the 2011 Geographical Cosmologies Symposium of which the 21st Century Initiative funded their lodging, transportation and conference registration. The discussion was presented by Noah Sager, Felicia Beckett, Kristin Bowen, John Owens, Valeryia Fiodarava, Thomas Ware and John Bisegerwa.
The event ended with Certificates of Participation for all presenters, guests, and judges.
