CHICAGO STATE RECEIVES ANONYMOUS GIFT OF $500,000
CHICAGO – The Chicago State University Foundation is the recent recipient of an anonymous gift of $500,000 for student scholarships and faculty support. This generous contribution has come at a time when the cost of education continues to rise while the level of federal student aid continues to fall.
“This wonderful contribution is a great gift for our students, many of whom attend the University with tremendous unmet financial need,” said Dr. Elnora Daniel, Chicago State University President. “This type of support will relieve students’ financial burden, allowing them to focus their energies on academic achievement.”
Over half of Chicago State University students carry educational debt that compels them to take out large loans. The result is an average student loan debt of $46,000 at graduation.
The CSU Foundation is engaged in an ambitious fundraising effort that, over the next three years, will significantly increase the Foundation’s scholarship support. “It has become increasingly important for the Foundation to reach out to the private sector for purposes particularly central to the teaching, research and service mission of the University. It is the intent of the Foundation to close the gap between the students’ desire to receive an education and their financial ability to do so,” said Marquis Miller, Executive Director of the CSU Foundation.
The Chicago State University Foundation, Inc. is a private non-profit corporation chartered in 1967 and incorporated in December 1968 as an independent, charitable, organization to secure, hold and administer funds and properties given by individuals, corporations and philanthropic foundations in support of Chicago State University and its affiliated organizations.
