The Cougar Academy for Teachers (CATs) – A Teacher Quality Enhancement (TQE) Institute [CATs Scholar Class of 2008] will be held June 16th to July 18th, 2008 at Chicago State University in the College of Education. The program will run all day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
The CATs institute is for high school students who might want to become teachers. Hands-on activities involve science, math, business, and technology. Teams of CATs Scholars will have an opportunity to develop lessons for middle school children based on environmental studies. In addition, CATs Scholars will receive individualized tutoring and practice in Study Skills in preparation for college. Recreation and lunch will be provided.
Students accepted into the CATs Scholars – Class of 2008 will be asked to deposit $150 to secure their placement. Up to $20 of the deposit will be returned at the Graduation Ceremony based on the rate of $1 per day of actual attendance. The remainder of the deposit will be used to cover the subscription to online tutoring services that will remain available after the summer session ends. Space is limited so apply early!
In addition, Extra Help Sessions for ACT will be available free as part of the CATs Homework Club for the first 10 new applicants and former CAT Scholars. There is a one-time membership fee of $25 for others.
