Counseling Center
WHO WE ARE

The Chicago State University Counseling Center professional staff is a team of experienced psychologists who provide a variety of counseling services and programs for CSU undergraduate and graduate students and the entire University Community. The counselors support and adhere to the professional, ethical and legal standards as outlined by the American Psychological Association (APA) and various other professional organizations and represent diverse theoretical orientations and styles. In general, our role is to contribute to the overall quality of campus life for students.

How We Help You

We understand how experiences outside of the classroom can influence a student's academic performance. Each of us needs help dealing with personal, social, educational and vocational concerns that we face as a part of life long development. Positive human growth and development require the mastery of certain life tasks or the obtaining of proper information on a developmental question. A student may be motivated to come to the Counseling Center, or be referred, when he or she experiences with life's ordinary developmental process. Another student may come in during an extremely stressful period of time and others may need support over a period of time in response to more long-term chronic concerns. Personal needs for self-development or support can be addressed in a confidential setting, with approachable, qualified counselors on an individual basis or in our group programs.

Group Counseling/ Workshops/ Presentations

Opportunities are provided for students to share common concerns, seek solutions and coping strategies, acquire helpful information and skills, and receive feedback from others. Groups focus on:

* Coping effectively with life changes
* Cultural diversity
* Personal and professional growth strategies
* Performance anxiety
* Relationships
* Myers-Briggs Typology Assessments and applications
* Survivor issues
* Helper and leader skills training

The Psychology of Personal Adjustment

Psychology 123 is a three credit-hour course that
is taught by the counseling and staff, under the auspices of the Psychology Department.
