Chicago State University is a participant in the Illinois Articulation Inititative (IAI)T This means that students who complete the A.A. or A.S.
degree (or the IAI General Education Core) at a community college will be considered as having met Chicago State University's University-wide general education requirements. Students should be aware, however, that some programs recommend specific courses within general education which go toward meeting program requirements. Furthermore, each College of the University has course requirements which go beyond IAI. Thus, more than two years may be required at CSU depending upon the program and the student's selection of general education courses. The courses listed in the transfer guides which will best help students to meet general education requirements while also meeting specific program requirements for degree programs at CSU.
NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
All freshmen and transfer students (regardless of major) who enter Chicago State University in fall 2002 and thereafter will be required to complete six (6) hours of a single foreign language. These hours may be completed before transferring to CSU, after transferring to CSU, or by successfully completing a CLEP exam.
Students are strongly advised to follow the Transfer Guides as best as possible and to complete the A.A. or A.S. degree before transfer.
Students who transfer to Chicago State University before completing the A.A., A.S., or the IAI Core must complete the University-wide general education requirements and general education requirements within each College of the University. Students will receive a course-by-course evaluation of credits and will receive credit as appropriate toward fulfilling general education requirements for the University and the College. Chicago State University requires a minimum of 120 semester hours for the baccalaureate degree. Students must complete at least 54 of those credits at an accredited four-year institution. Thus, students who plan to complete a baccalaureate degree are advised to complete no more than 66 semester hours at the community college.
