Transfer Guide for

The College of Arts and Sciences
Teacher Preparation Options

The College of Arts and Sciences at Chicago State University offers ten programs leading to teacher certification: art, biology, chemistry, English, geography, history, math, music, physics, and Spanish. Because the teacher certification requirements are integrated with general education requirements, it is advisable that students follow this transfer guide if planning to major in one of the teaching programs. All transfer students must complete Chicago State University diagnostic examinations for English, reading, and mathematics unless they have documentation of having passed the Illinois Certification Test of Basic Skills (ICTBS). Study guides for the mathematics and English examinations can be found at EXAMS PAGE. Effective fall 2007, students are required to satisfy a 3 hour diversity and a 3 hour critical thinking requirement in the general education curriculum.  Effective fall 2008, students who have completed an associates degree will be considered to have completed all university general education requirements, including the foreign language requirement.  Individual programs may, however, require specific courses for program completion.
