SATURDAY COLLEGE

Module I: October 10, 2009 - December 12, 2009

Module II: January 23, 2010 - May 15, 2010

Open to grades six through twelve

9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The Chicago State University Saturday College (CSUSC) targets disadvantaged students in grades 6th to 12th from Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) from the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs who are interested in the health professions. The purpose of the CSUSC is to increase the academic preparedness of middle school students to enter high school at or above state average levels on the ISAT, take competitive course such as Honors and AP courses and enter college with ACT scores at or above national averages. Subjects covered include mathematics, science and reading while providing the academic skills necessary for algebra, biology, writing, social development and skills enhancement.

The CSUSC is a 26-week program that will enrich student academic experiences and expose them to public health science research**. All 6th-12th students will meet on designated Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Chicago State University. Their activities are expected to increase their interest in science, mathematics and public health research** and motivate them to take Honors level and Advanced Placement science courses.

**During spring module, ACT prep for 11th grade and public health science summer research for 12th grade only  

In addition to student involvement, an essential component of this program is parental involvement. Parent or guardians will attend one class with their child during each module, October - December and January - May. A Saturday College Parent Association (SCPA) will be formed. Parents will organize supplemental events such as museum tours, special workshops and motivational presentations.
