Academic Prerequisites
Medical schools list their specific requirements for admission
in the annual
Medical School Admissions Requirements (MSAR) published by the Association
of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Other professional schools have similar,
but less elaborate information booklets.
Professional schools requirements are less stringent so
as to encourage students
to develop a broad background in preparation for careers in the health
professions.
The following courses are the basic requirements that must be completed
prior to matriculation.

Preprofessional course requirements include: communication
and language skills,
psychology, social sciences or humanities. In each of the science prerequisite
areas, laboratory experiences covering the pertinent aspects of the range
of material
presented in the didactic portions of the course is required. These requirements
are minimal, and institutions may have more rigorous requirements.
