CSU Baseball Earns ABCA Academic Team Award for 2015-16

CHICAGO – Chicago State baseball was one of 140 teams that were selected as recipients of the inaugural American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced today in a press release.

“We are extremely proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of so many of our member coaches' programs this year,” said ABCA Executive Director Craig Keilitz in the press release. “This award highlights our coaches' commitment to developing student-athletes that excel both on and off the field, and we're proud of these student-athletes for their success in the classroom.”

The award recognizes high school and collegiate teams that posted a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 grading scale. CSU was one of 29 NCAA Division I programs and one of two Western Athletic Conference schools to be honored for the award.

The Cougars have produced a GPA of 3.0 or better for the last eight semesters under head coach Steve Joslyn in addition to having 10 of their student-athletes named Academic All-WAC last season.

“I am extremely proud of our baseball student-athletes and we are in some excellent company of the teams that have been recognized by the ABCA,” Joslyn stated. “I want to thank our Athletic Director Dr. Denisha Hendricks for her continued support of the program. I would like to specifically thank Academic Coordinator Karen Schiferl for work with each of our team members for she is the main reason we continue to excel in the classroom.”
