CSU Professors and Students Honored at International Research Conference

CHICAGO, IL - Chicago State University student researchers Mark Wesolowski, Diana Carrasco, and Angela Biggins-Logwood along with their professors, Dr. Cynthia Valenciano, Dr. Timothy Harrington and Dr. Miguel Fernandez made CSU proud this past week as they were honored with the Best Presentation Award and the Best Paper Award at the Center for Scholastic Inquiry International Academic Research Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The CSU team was honored for their research in exposing urban teachers to rural education environments. The students took part in a week long immersion experience where they were placed in rural and tribal schools as teaching assistants and taught lessons in order to learn about teaching diverse students.

The paper, entitled "Rural Field Experiences with Urban Pre-Service Teachers", was awarded best conference paper in the education track and best presentation in its timeframe. This international conference hosted presentations from 50 universities, 23 states and 4 countries. The paper is also eligible to be published in the Journal of Scholastic Inquiry: Education.
