Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of University Counsel is to provide quality legal service to Chicago State University (CSU) by advising the administration, faculty, employees and student leaders on all matters having legal significance to the management and operation of the CSU.  The Office of University Counsel seeks to advance the mission of CSU by providing counsel toward sound decision-making in all areas of University involvement. The Office of University Counsel provides oversight of all litigation assigned to the Illinois Attorney General. Further, the Office of University Counsel serves an educational function by regularly instructing deans, chairs and managers in laws, rules and policies applicable to public institutions. The Office of University Counsel is committed to a policy of pro-actively reducing litigation and risks of liability, with the goal of preventing or minimizing legal risks in the performance of the daily business of the University. Within the higher education community, the Office of University Counsel pursues a leadership role by actively participating in state and national professional associations and continuing legal education programs.
