Sociology Major Overview

 


General Requirements

Admission to the program is contingent upon good academic standing and acceptance by the department. The department will not accept D grades in transfer credits. Achievement of a grade of C or better is required in all major courses at Chicago State University. Students must complete 120 semester hours of work to graduate.

Course Offerings:

Typically 25 or so courses offered every semester. Classes are offered in mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. (About half of our majors are primarily evening and weekend students.)

Sociology Requirements: 12 Credit Hours: (Select one from each of the following)

  • Social Foundation Class: Soc 1110, 2050, 2030, 2100
  • Social Inequality Class: Soc 1200, 2250, 2230, 3230
  • Social Institutions Class: Soc 2300, 4300, 3300, 4280
  • Social Change Class: Soc 2400, 2410, 3400, 3430


Sociology Electives: 12 credit hours

  • 6 Credits of sociology/social work at the 2000 or 300 level
  • 6 credits of sociology/social work at the 4000 level
