The Chicago State University Department of Psychology in conjunction with the School of Graduate and Professional Studies presents its inaugural international conference: "Spirituality in Everyday LIfe". We invite you to join us as we take a scholarly look at spirituality and it's impact on science, politics, education, mass media and the family. Dialogue with peers from education, counseling, mental health, government and civic organizations, social work and related disciplines. Two student competitions will be featured as a part of the conference and judged by CSU Department of Art and Design, and Psychology faculty.

Undergraduate Student Essay Competition

The Conference invites prospective authors to submit abstracts on the following types of presentations:

Historical Analysis
International Applications
Position Papers
Research Papers
Survey Papers
Abstract Submission

Abstracts must reflect original work. Begin the abstract with title, followed by author(s) last name, first name and title. Describe the purpose of the paper (500 word maximum), methods used to conduct the research, results, and conclusions. Attach a completed Abstract Submission Form and email both to: idunn@csu.edu.

Deadline for entries is midnight, July 31, 2010. Invited papers will be notified by email before August 31, 2010.

High School students from throughout the region are invited to submit entries consisting of paintings, drawings, or sculpture. The competition will be judged by faculty from the CSU Art Department. Three prizes will be awarded as follows:

First Prize: $100 gift card
Second Prize: $50 gift card
Third Prize: $25 gift card

Winners will be notified in September, 2010, and prizes will be awarded at the conference. The winning entries will be displayed on the day of the conference.

How to Apply

Create artwork to express your ideas about spirituality.
Take no more than two digital photos of your work. Only two entries (and a max of four digital photos) per person can be accepted.
Complete the attached form including the parental signature of approval.
Email the form and essay to idunn@csu.edu

Undergraduate students from throughout the region are invited to submit essays consisting of 1,000 words or less. The competition will be judged by the CSU Psychology Department faculty. Three prizes will be awarded as follows:

First Prize: $100 gift card
Second Prize: $50 gift card
Third Prize: $25 gift card

Winners will be notified in September, 2010 and prizes will be awarded at the conference.

How to Apply

Write an essay to express your ideas about spirituality.
Prepare the final version in Microsoft Word or .PDF format. The font should not exceed 12 pt. and 1 inch margins should be used.
Complete the attached form including the signature of a faculty member who reviewed your work.
Email the form and essay to idunn@csu.edu

Continuing Education Units

Conference attendees will be able to earn continuing education units (CEUs) for participating. Chicago State University’s Division of Continuing Education is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation to provide CEUs to clinical and professional counselors, licensed and clinical social workers, social work providers, and marriage and family therapists. Other professionals should check with their certifying or licensing organization for CEU approval. Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs) are also available.

The Division provides CEUs at $5 per CEU. A total of six CEUs can be earned. Half day participants can earn three CEUs but further division of the total CEUs is not possible. Please complete the attached form to include CEUs with your registration. Bring the form when you register or you can complete it on site.
