CSU Theatre Production – Black History Month Event

The Spring 2008 CSU’s Theatre African American Folkloric production, LOVE FOLK, will run from February 11 through February 29 on Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 11 a.m.  Tickets are available by reservation only.  Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. The College of Pharmacy invites prospective students to attend an Information Session from Noon until 2 p.m. in the Cordell Reed Student Union, Conference Rooms A, B and C.  This session will provide prospective students with an opportunity to: meet the Dean and other key staff; learn about the admission and selection process; learn about financial aid and scholarship opportunities; learn about the Prerequisite Course Requirements; learn about the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum; learn about career opportunities available in the field of pharmacy; and ask questions about the College of Pharmacy. CSU Pan-Hellenic Council Lecture – Black History Month Event

The CSU Pan-Hellenic Council and the Office of Student Activities present a Black History Month Lecture featuring Dr. Walter M. Kimbrough, the twelfth president of Philander Smith College of Little Rock, Arkansas and Author of Black Greek 101: The Culture, Customs and Challenges of Black Fraternities and Sororities.  Dr. Kimbrough is recognized as the first college president from the hip-hop generation, one of the youngest college presidents in the nation and an expert on historically Black Fraternities and Sororities. John W. E. Thomas Exhibit Lecture – Black History Month Event

CSU’s Board and Governmental Affairs Department and the National Archives Great Lakes Region present a lecture on The Life and Times of John W. E. Thomas Exhibit.  This FREE event will take place at the National Archives Great Lakes Region located at 7358 South Pulaski Road in Chicago.  The Lecture program features presenter Dr. Erma Brooks Williams, Senior Executive Director for the CSU’s Board and Governmental Affairs Department and guest speaker David A. Jones, Director, Illinois State Archives.  John W.E. Thomas became the first African-American to serve in the Illinois General Assembly.  For more information, please call ext. 3822.

Twelfth Annual High School Day – Black History Month Event

The History Club of Chicago State University along with the Department of History, Philosophy and Political Science will host the 12th Annul High School Day Competition in the New Academic Library Auditorium and Sun Room from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Students from area high schools will compete on the theme “Oral and Ethnic History: Telling Our Stories”. On this day Judges will review projects for the awarding of prizes.  Prizes will be awarded for two divisions: Ninth and Tenth Graders (Division I) and Eleventh and Twelfth Graders (Division II).  For each category, the top three individuals and top three schools will receive awards.   For more information, please call ext. 2973.

Division of Continuing Education Workshop

The University Library and the Division of Continuing Education present an interactive and didactic workshop entitled Adolescent Conduct Disorders: Using A Systems Based Approach to Treatment.  This workshop will be held in the New Academic Library, Sun Room from 9 a.m. until Noon.  Three CEU’s or CPDU’s will be available.  A special discounted fee is available for CSU staff, students and alumni.  For the admission charge and additional information, please call ext. 2576.

College of Education Seminar Series in Urban Education

CSU’s Ed.D. program and ELCF presents the Spring 2008 Seminar Series. The next seminar, entitled Exposing Chicago’s Urban Youth to Legacy Voices featuring guest presenter Dr. Emiel Hamberlin and S. Walton, will be held in the College of Education Building, on the third floor in the Foyer starting at 9 a.m.  The theme of this seminar series is Urban Education and is a unique opportunity for interested faculty, students and community members to explore the multicultural themes which help constitute the “value added” component of study at Chicago State University.  The Series seeks to enable collaborative learning through the exchange of ideas and experiences.  For more information, please call ext. 2319.

 

 Other Features …

School of Graduate & Professional Studies - A HECA grant, designated for the Fiscal Year 2008, is available for funding faculty stipends and technical assistance for development of ten (10) online homeland security courses.  Typical funding will be $8,000 for faculty stipend and technical support for one three-hour course.  Proposal packets are available in the School of Graduate & Professional Studies, New Academic Library, Room 234 for faculty course creators.  The final deadline for proposal entries is February 15, 2008.  Proposals should be sent to Mr. Robert Warner at rwarner@csu.edu.  Please call Mr. Warner at ext. 3580, if you have any questions.

 

University of Chicago Coursework/Summer Research Internships – The Minority Student Enrichment Program is accepting applications from Chicago State University undergraduate and graduate students in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education and the BOG program who wish to begin taking courses at the University of Chicago beginning March, 2008. Tuition is free and credit is transferable to CSU. Applications are due February 21, 2008.  The Minority Student Enrichment Program also has information for Chicago State University undergraduates in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education and the BOG program who are interested in applying for a summer research internship at the University of Illinois at Chicago beginning June, 2008.  A $3,500 stipend will be provided.  Please inform outstanding students of these opportunities and encourage them to contact Prof. Marc Cooper at ext. 2131 for information and application forms.

 

Financial Aid Check Disbursement - Attention CSU Students.  The first spring 2008 Financial Aid Check Disbursement will be on February 11-12, 2008 in the Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. for both days.  Please see the options below for picking up your check.

  • Students must bring a current CSU ID to pick-up their check.

  • Checks that are not claimed will be mailed on the close of business of February 12, 2008.

In the event that your check is returned to the University, you will not be allowed to pick-up the check until we receive a current address change form from you.  You must go to the New Academic Library, Room 143 to obtain a new CSU Photo Identification Card. To get an ID, students must present a photo ID and a current, paid registration receipt.
