FEMALES are not required to register with the Selective Service System. If you are a female and have been directed to this web page because there is a question on your SAR (Student Aid Report) regarding your compliance with the registration law it is because you neglected to identify yourself as a female on your FAFSA. This is a common occurrence and can be easily rectified. The easiest way to correct this oversight is for you to go on-line to the FAFSA web site and answer the gender question. You will need your U.S. Department of Education PIN in order to do so. If you do not have a PIN you may download the "I am a female and not required to register with Selective Service System (.pdf)" form from our web site Simply fill out the form and submit it to our office. We will amend your SAR for you to indicate that you are a female.
MALES, in order to be eligible to receive financial aid funds, generally must be in compliance with the Selective Service System policies by registering before their 26th birthday. If you you are unsure as to whether or not you are in compliance, or if you have already filed a FAFSA and have been notified by the U.S. Department of Education or Chicago State University that there is a question as to your compliance, please visit the Selective Service System web site
From the web site you will be able to download proof of registration, if you are registered, and submit a copy to our office so that we might amend your FAFSA to show your registered status.
If you are a 18 to 25 year old male you must resister. You may do so on-line through the Selective Service System web site After you have registered you may download proof of registration and submit a copy to our office so that we might amend your FAFSA to show your registered status.
If you were required to register, but failed to do so before your 26th birthday, you must submit an explanation to the Selective Service System (you will find their address and telephone number on the Selective Service System web site) as to why you failed to comply with this Federal Law. Selective Service will respond in writing. Bring a copy of this written response to our office as soon as you receive it and speak to a Financial Aid Advisor.
You may need to download some of the forms/documents on this web site.
