Math 099: Information
In the Fall of 2007, the mathematics remedial sequence, Math 090, Math 095, and Math 098, was replaced by a single course, Math 099.
There are two levels to Math 099: Math 099 Level 1 and Math 099 Level 2. Each level will be taught in eight-week sessions, giving the students the opportunity to complete both levels of the course in one semester. Math 099 Level 1 has merged the upper half of Math 090 and the lower half of Math 095. The upper end of Math 095 and the material from Math 098 has formed Math 099 Level 2.
A Math 099 “A” section, e.g., 01A, 02A, …, consists of Level 1 taught in the first eight weeks, followed by Level 2 taught in the second eight weeks. An “A” section of Math 099 is a variable hour course: either four or eight hours. Students who wish to enroll in Level 1 and Level 2 of an “A” section need to make sure that they are enrolled for eight hours of Math 099. Students who wish to enroll in only Level 1 of an “A” section need to make sure that they are enrolled for four hours of Math 099.
A Math 099 “B” section, e.g., 01B, 02B, …, consists of Level 2 taught in the first eight weeks only. Students who wish to enroll in Level 2 of an “B” section need to make sure that they are enrolled for four hours of Math 099.
Placement into Level 1 and Level 2:
A student who needs to complete Math 099 should be placed in
Level 2 only if:
- s/he has passed Math 095, or
- s/he has a score of 37 or above on the algebra part of the Compass Mathematics placement exam (Math SC2 on Banner).
All students who do not meet either of these requirements should enroll in a Math 099 Level 1 and Level 2.
Cutoff scores are subject to change.
