A note about...

Financial Aid

College is one of life's most rewarding investments--and a major expense for your family.  We don't want you to rule out Chicago State University because of cost.

You have a world of financial assistance resources available to you, including low-interest loans, scholarships, grants and campus jobs.

In addition, you have us.  We're delighted to offer the following information to make your financial aid application process go as smoothly as possible, and to help you and your family put forth an affordable financial aid package.

How to APPLY for FINANCIAL AID

As easy as 1-2-3...

1.  Begin the process by filling out the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – available from your high school counselor or by contacting us. Be sure you list Chicago State University as your first-choice school. Our federal code is 001694.

2.  Send the completed form, as instructed on the form itself, directly to the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) for processing—not to Chicago State University.

Or

For quick processing, you can apply on-line at www.ed.gov/student aid

3.  Using the information you provided, USDE will determine your family’s financial situation, including an estimate of what your family might contribute to your college education.

4.  Usually within six weeks, the USDE will send you—and CSU—an analysis of your financial needs, called the Student Aid Report (SAR).  Internet (on-line) processing takes approximately 2 weeks.

5.  Based on your SAR, Chicago State University will develop a financial package--typically a combination of loans and grants—that allows you to attend CSU (you must be accepted for admission to CSU to receive a financial aid award.)

6. We will normally notify you of your eligibility for most types of financial aid beginning in April for new students, and in June for continuing students. Your notification will include instructions on additional steps required for you to actually receive your aid awards.

    Meeting the Deadline

March 31 is the date by which you should have completed and submitted the FAFSA form, in order to receive consideration for all programs of assistance. We recommend, however, that you submit your form as soon after January 1st as possible.  Illinois students who wish to be considered for the ISAC Monetary Assistance Program (Map Grant) should submit the FAFSA no later than June 30th.
