PREP 2008 Summer Program
Thank you for your interest in the 2008 Summer Pre-Freshman Program in Engineering and Science (PREP). The PREP
program will begin on Monday, June 30, 2008 and end on Friday, August 8, 2008. The hours of operation will be from
8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The PREP program is designed to make students aware, at an early age, of the professional
opportunities in engineering and to convince students to take more mathematics and science as a part of their high school
course load. The five week summer program will consist of educational, motivational and recreational activities designed
specifically to stimulate interest in math/science that will insure success in an engineering curriculum. The goal of the
PREP Program is to increase awareness of career opportunities in engineering in order to facilitate the selection of an
engineering major in college. The PREP Program is beneficial to students because it provides critical insight into the
engineering profession, the demands of an engineering curriculum and what is expected of them academically and
socially in college.
Students entering grades 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 in September 2008 are eligible to apply. Students who are selected for
the PREP Program participate in:
- Mathematics, science and English/communication courses.
- A hands on engineering project.
- Field trips to engineering and science corporations.
We are now accepting applications for the summer program. The following are the requirements:
- Students must have demonstrated proficiency in math/science evidenced by submitting a copy of the 2007/2008
elementary school report card or an official high school transcript.
- Unofficial copy of the 2007 Iowa test scores, TAP test scores, and ACT or SAT scores. Please photocopy original
documents and submit the copied documents with your application package. All materials become the property
of Chicago State University.
- Students must submit two letters of recommendation from their science instructor, math instructor or school
counselor.
- Interview with summer program staff/faculty members.
- Students must be from an ethnic group historically underrepresented in engineering.
After your application materials have been submitted to our office, we will e-mail you a response indicating what we have
received. The final deadline for submission of all application information is Friday, May 9, 2008. Be sure to complete
the entire application and provide the requested forms. Please note each written recommendation must be completed by
a different source (e.g, counselor, teacher, etc.)
