Workshops

Students are offered the opportunity to engage in on and off-campus networking and professional development workshops to strengthen their professional growth. The CSER office offers monthly workshops and seminars on various topics such networking, resume writing, technical skills, academic and research presentations skills.

Off-campus opportunities are also available during student research symposiums and conferences throughout the academic and summers sessions.

Thinking About Graduate School?

“Thinking About Graduate School” is a workshop that will provide students with information about graduate programs and the resources available to them. Students will receive information on how graduate STEM programs are structured, funded, how to select a program that fits them, and about the application process. More importantly students will also be able to ask current graduate students about their experience. Participants will be provided with information to help guide them through the process and other resources available on campus that may assist them.

Beyond Science “Talk”

Beyond Science “Talk” (BST) is a bi-monthly brown-bag lunch conversation open to students, staff, and faculty. The goal of these talks is to create a safe space for our STEM community to get together and network. Typically, students do not know much about faculty due to their limited interaction. This will allow our STEM community to come together and discuss a variety of topics.

STEM Student Presentations

STEM Student Presentation- the purpose of this workshop is to give students an opportunity to present to both, faculty and students. Students will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their presentation to prepare for external presentations. Additionally, students who attend the presentation will learn about research opportunities available at Chicago State University. These workshops are beneficial, as students can increase their self-confidence while presenting scientific research.

STEM Faculty Presentations

Faculty presentation- STEM faculty members will present their research interest to STEM students. This workshop will expose students to various research groups. Faculty members will also discuss their requirements for their lab and let students know if any position is available. Students will be exposed to different areas of research and can get a better understanding of what their personal interest are.
