Chair


Dolores Nobles-KnightDolores Nobles-Knight, Pharm.D., M.P.H. is the Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Pharmacy Practice for the Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).  Dr. Nobles-Knight received her Pharm.D. from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy in 1987 and her M.P.H. in Clinical Effectiveness (Epidemiology) from Harvard University in 2004.  She also completed a general pharmacy practice residency in 1988 at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, and received certificate training in Pharmacoeconomics and Economic Analytical Methods from the University of Arizona and the University of Southern California Schools of Pharmacy.  She served as an adjunct clinical instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy from 1988-90 and again from 1994-96.

Prior to joining CSU-COP, Dr. Nobles-Knight provided clinical pharmacy services at several hospitals in the Chicago metropolitan area before joining Pfizer Inc. in 1993.  At Pfizer Inc., Dr. Nobles-Knight served the organization in several capacities.   She initially developed & delivered educational programs for health professionals, resulting in numerous presentations before local, regional and national audiences.  She moved into Outcomes Research in 1998, focusing on outcomes research studies and projects for Pfizer compounds, leadership of OR teams & committees, as well as development & dissemination of OR training & tools to Pfizer Inc. customers.  Just prior to leaving Pfizer in 2007, Dr. Nobles-Knight was a Regional Medical Specialist in the area of Healthcare Policy, educating and interacting with regional medical leaders on pharmaceutical policy issues such as Medicare Part D implementation and the application of EBM principles to medical decision-making. Dr. Nobles-Knight is a member of several professional associations and societies, including the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) and the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR).

 

Faculty


Cindy ArocenaCindy Leslie A. Arocena, Pharm.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).Dr. Arocena received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2004 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Eshelman School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2011. Dr. Arocena went on to complete a pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. She also worked as an Assistant Scientist in the drug formulation department at Cirrus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. at Research Triangle Park in Durham, NC.

Dr. Arocena’s clinical areas include ambulatory care and disease state and medication therapy management. Her specific areas of interest include diabetes, dyslipidemia, anticoagulation, endocrine disorders, chronic pain management, and hypertension. Research areas of interest include diabetes management and optimization of anticoagulation monitoring practices. Dr. Arocena is a member of several pharmacy organizations including the American College of Clinical Pharmacists, (ACCP), The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, (AACP), The American Pharmacists Association, (APhA) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, (ASHP). She has also served as a peer-reviewer for the Annals of Pharmacotherapy.

 

Sneha Baxi SrivastavaSneha Baxi Srivastava, Pharm.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Baxi received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2004 from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University. She also completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency and then an Ambulatory Care Specialty Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She served on the faculty of the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy in Storrs, CT from 2006-2008.

Dr. Baxi's clinical interests include diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, HIV/AIDS, and tobacco dependence as well as patient education and outreach.  Her research interests include medication adherence and health psychology in conjunction with the aforementioned disease states as well as the scholarship of teaching.

 

Don BrowerDon Brower, B.S.Pharm. is the Coordinator of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences, Office of Experiential Education at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas City – Missouri.

Prior to joining Chicago State University, Mr. Brower was the National Account Manager for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Bethesda, MD. In addition, Mr. Brower has been a pharmacist in both community and institutional pharmacy and involved in pharmaceutical sales for over twenty years.

Mr. Brower is a current member of many pharmacy organizations, including the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

 

Rebecca CastnerRebecca M. Castner, Pharm.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Castner received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Minor in Philosophy, from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio (2005), and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Pharmacy in Baltimore, Maryland (2010). She then went on to complete a PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency at Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy in New Orleans, Louisiana (2011), followed by a PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency at UC Health – University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio (2012).                                                             
Dr. Castner’s clinical interests include management of a variety of chronic disease states including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and HIV/AIDS, as well as anticoagulation and efficacy of various educational techniques both across the health disciplines and among patients. Dr. Castner is a member of several pharmacy organizations including Phi Delta Chi Professional Pharmacy Fraternity, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She currently serves as a faculty co-advisor for the Gamma Kappa chapter of Phi Delta Chi at CSU-COP and is a member of the Advisory Board for iForum Rx (iForumRx.org).

 

John EasterlyJohn Esterly, Pharm.D., BCPS is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Esterly received his Doctor of Pharmacy in 2007 from the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Pharmacy. In 2008, he completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with Comprehensive Pharmacy Services at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Esterly then went on to complete a 2-year Infectious Diseases Pharmacotherapy Fellowship with the Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy in conjunction with Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. While at Midwestern University, Dr Esterly also held the title of Clinical Visiting Instructor. In 2009, Dr. Esterly earned board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist.

Dr. Esterly currently practices as a clinical pharmacist, specializing in the area of infectious diseases at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His research interests include antimicrobial resistance, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antimicrobials, and antimicrobial stewardship related outcomes. His work has been presented at several national professional meetings and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Esterly is currently a member of a number of professional organizations including the Society of Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, the American Society for Microbiology, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists.

 

Heather FieldsHeather Fields, Pharm.D., MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Fields received her Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from the University of Illinois, in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois (2002), her Master of Public Health from University of Illinois, in Chicago, Illinois (2005), and her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, in Chicago, Illinois (2009). Following this, she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency in Community Care with The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and the Clinical Partners Program, in Columbus, Ohio.

Prior to joining CSU, she was a clinical staff pharmacist at a 340B pharmacy affiliated with a group of federally qualified health centers (FQHC) in Baltimore, MD.  Her research interests include investigating healthcare disparities among minority and underserved populations, and the role public health plays in influencing these disparities. She is a member of Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society, Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and the American Pharmacists Association.

 

 

Yolanda HardyYolanda M. Hardy, Pharm.D. is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).  Dr. Hardy holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio (1999).  She earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio (2001).  Following this, she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency in Community Care with The Ohio State University School of Pharmacy and the Columbus Neighborhood Health Centers, Inc. in Columbus Ohio.  She served on the faculty of Northeastern University School of Pharmacy in Boston, Massachusetts from 2002-2008.

Dr. Hardy’s research interests consist of examining the role of pharmacists in reducing health disparities and exploring the role career exposure programs have on underrepresented students’ perception and selection of careers in pharmacy. Dr. Hardy has held leadership roles within professional and community organizations.  She currently serves as Secretary for the National Pharmaceutical Association.  She has received a number of awards for her service, the most recent being the Terrence Burroughs Leadership Award from the National Pharmaceutical Association.

 

Deborah Harper-BrownDeborah Harper-Brown, Pharm.D. is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).   Dr. Harper-Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts from Earlham College and both the Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (1983) and the Doctor of Pharmacy (1985) degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy.  She also completed an Advanced Residency in Drug Information Practice from the University of Illinois Medical Center (UIMC) in 1986.

Prior to joining the faculty at Chicago State University, Dr. Harper-Brown served on the faculty of the UIC College of Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, was Assistant Director for the UIMC Drug Information Center,  a Clinical Pharmacist at the Mile Square Neighborhood Health Center in Chicago and a member of the Clinical Formulary Department at CVS Caremark.   Her research interests include ambulatory care pharmacy practice, the application of adult learning theories in the development of individualized education material for patients with chronic illnesses and the use of reflective writing/journaling as an instructional technique for Doctor of Pharmacy students.  

Dr. Harper-Brown has authored and co-authored several articles in peer-reviewed, professional publications and is currently a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. She has received a number of awards and accolades, the most recent being the Urban Health Program Alumni Trailblazer Award from the University of Illinois.

 

Sabah HusseinSabah Hussein, Pharm.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Hussein received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy in 1991.She also completed a Community Pharmacy Practice Residency in 2004 with Dominick’s Pharmacy and Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Hussein has held academic appointments at Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy and South Suburban College. She has been actively involved in the education of student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians for several years. Dr. Hussein has served the Chicagoland community through her clinical and staff positions at Dominick’s Pharmacy and Rush University Medical Center and through her dedicated participation in numerous outreach, disease prevention, and health education activities and events.

Dr. Hussein’s research interests include evaluating the impact of patient-centered pharmacy care services on patient health outcomes and determining the causes of low enrollment rates of Hispanic students in Illinois pharmacy schools. Dr. Hussein was awarded an Incentive Grant for Practitioner Innovation in Pharmaceutical Care in 2003 by the American Pharmacists Association Foundation for the development of a weight management program at Dominick’s Pharmacy. Dr. Hussein is a member of several pharmacy professional organizations including the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Illinois Pharmacists Association. She currently serves on the Professional Affairs Committee of the Illinois Pharmacists Association.

 

Diana IsaacsDiana Isaacs, Pharm.D., BCPS, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).Dr. Isaacs received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2004 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2009.Dr. Isaacs went onto complete a pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care at the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She also served as adjunct faculty at the University of the Sciences Philadelphia College of Pharmacy from 2009-2010 before joining CSU.

Dr. Isaacs’ clinical areas include ambulatory care and disease state management. Research areas of interest include diabetes, medication adherence, and chronic pain management. Dr. Isaacs is a member of several pharmacy organizations including the American College of Clinical Pharmacists, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.She also serves on the American Pharmacists Association New Practitioners National Advisory Board.

 

Antoine JenkinsAntoine T. Jenkins, Pharm.D., BCPS is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Dr. Jenkins received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2005 from the University Of Tennessee Health Science Center located in Memphis, TN. In 2006, he completed a pharmacy practice residency at Methodist University Hospital also located in Memphis. He became a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist in 2007. Prior to joining CSU, he worked as a clinical pharmacist. His duties included providing pharmaceutical care services to general medicine and cardiology patients, precepting students, and participating in several community outreach programs.

Dr. Jenkins clinical areas are internal medicine and cardiology. His specific areas of interest include inpatient anticoagulation and ensuring appropriate management of hospitalized patients with heart failure, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and stroke. His research interests include minimizing health disparities among African-Americans and promoting preventative health measures. Dr. Jenkins is a member of several organizations including American College of Clinical Pharmacy, American Society of Health-System Pharmacy, National Lipid Association, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Anticoagulation Forum, and the North American Thrombosis Forum.

 

Charisse JohnsonCharisse Johnson M.S., Pharm.D., is the Director of Experiential Education and Assistant Professor at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).

Dr. Johnson received both her Doctor of Pharmacy degree (1998) and Master of Science degree in Pharmacy Administration (2003) from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy (UIC COP). Possessing formal teaching experiences in both didactic and experiential arenas with student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, Dr. Johnson has served in various capacities as a guest speaker, course instructor, and graduate teaching assistant lecturing on topics such as regulatory policy, patient safety, and the pharmacist’s role in community health.

Prior to joining Chicago State University, Dr. Johnson was the Professional Affairs Manager at the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. She has also has practice experience in community and health-systems pharmacy.

Dr. Johnson is currently a board member of the National Pharmaceutical Association and Chicago Pharmacists Association. She is also a member of Rho Chi Honor Society, Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Fraternity, Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, and the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists. She has received a number of awards and accolades, the most recent being the Urban Health Program Distinguished Alumni Award from UIC COP and the Young Pharmacists Award from the National Pharmaceutical Association.

 

Janene MarshallJanene L. Marshall, Pharm.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).  Dr. Marshall received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago, in Chicago, Illinois (2003), and her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, in Atlanta, Georgia (2007). She also completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with Atlanta Medical Center. 

Dr. Marshall’s research interests include examining evidence based medicine practices in internal medicine and examining the role of the pharmacist clinical intervention in improving patient safety and therapeutic outcomes.   Dr. Marshall has experience with community and health-systems pharmacy.  She is a member of Kappa Epsilon Pharmacy Fraternity, Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Fraternity, and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

 

Dr. Marketa MarvanovaMarketa Marvanova, Ph.D., Pharm.D., CGP is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP) and also serves as an adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Marvanova holds a Master of Science in Pharmacy (1999), Doctor of Pharmacy (2003) and Doctor of Philosophy in Pathological Biochemistry and Xenobiochemistry (2003) with an emphasis on central nervous system (CNS) studies from Charles University in Prague, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuropharmacology (2004) from University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio, Finland. Dr. Marvanova finished a 3-year postgraduate stint at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was involved with multiple central nervous system studies targeted at development of new therapeutic interventions for neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders using various animal models.

Dr. Marvanova is a certified geriatric pharmacy specialist and has worked as a practitioner in inpatient and outpatient settings, researcher and academician during her career, and possesses a wide array of professional, social and intellectual skills vital to successful leadership and instruction in pharmacy practice. She has been a registered pharmacist since 1999, holds current TN and KY pharmacy licensure, and is both an immunizer and certified immunization trainer. Dr. Marvanova has held academic positions at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Belmont University College of Pharmacy and Midway College. She has been actively involved in the education of student pharmacists and works towards bridging pharmacy practice and pharmacy science in core and elective courses in pharmacy education. Dr. Marvanova's clinical areas are neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics.

Dr. Marvanova has authored and co-authored various articles in peer-reviewed, professional publications. Her current research interests include improvement of health and quality of life outcomes for community-dwelling and hospitalized patients with Parkinson’s disease and dementia, neuropsychopharmacologic treatment for hospitalized geriatric patients, and research on teaching and learning within the Pharm.D. curriculum. Dr. Marvanova is a member of several organizations including the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. She also serves as the pharmacist for the Grundy County Health Department Public Health Emergency Response Program

 

Tatjana PetrovaTatjana Petrova, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).  She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and a Specialist in Clinical Pharmacy degree from the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, Macedonia (1996 and 2005).  She completed her Doctorate in Pharmacy Care Systems from Auburn University, in Auburn, Alabama (2011).

Prior to joining Chicago State University, Dr. Petrova worked as a community pharmacist, marketing and sales representative for Abbott and Becton Dickenson and as a state inspector in the Ministry of Health-Helath Insurance Fond of Macedonia.  During her graduate program she was a teaching and research assistant at the Department of Pharmacy Care Systems at Auburn University.

Dr. Petrova's research interest include health behavior change and improving treatment adherence, as well as developing a new role of the pharmacist, putting an accent on the relationship between the pharmacist (health care provider) and the patient, and using motivational interviewing as a consulting technique.  She is interested in identifying the factors affecting adherence to proscribed medication from the patient perspective and health care systems perspective.  Dr. Petrova's research focus is oriented toward the role of the pharmacist in behavioral changes and adherence to medication when counseling patients.  Specifically, she is interested in increasing medication adherence in patients with chronic conditions or illnesses.  Her clinical research interest is in the area of COPD and asthma.

 

Angela RileyAngela C. Riley, Pharm.D., CGP is the Coordinator of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience and Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).  Dr. Riley obtained her BS in Pharmacy from Texas Southern University, and later followed with her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University-Chicago College of Pharmacy. 

Prior to joining Chicago State University, Dr. Riley was a Consultant Pharmacist for Provena Senior Services Pharmacy and an Experiential Education Specialist for Midwestern University CCP.  Dr. Riley is certified as a geriatric pharmacy specialist with additional professional experience in community and hospital settings.  Dr. Riley is a member of several organizations, including the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists and American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, where she is a board member of the Illinois Chapter.

 

Joseph SlonekJoseph Slonek, PhD, RPh, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Previously, Dr. Slonek held a number of positions in Pharmacy and Health Care Practice situations as well as in academics, including hospital directorships in Pharmacy, Educational Services, Radiology and Imaging Services, and Physical Therapy Services; faculty and adjunct faculty positions at several universities/colleges; and various hospital and community practice positions.  He has presented various works at local and national professional meetings and has also participated in community and school presentation activities as an invited presenter. He’s worked with professional students throughout his career in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.  He has a wide range of interests both in Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Slonek has both his BS (Pharm) and PhD degrees from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Slonek is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy, the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Northern Illinois Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He is a registered pharmacist in Illinois.

 

Staff


Elysia GanierElysia M. Ganier is the Program Administrative Assistant of Pharmacy Practice at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP). Mrs. Ganier serves as the central person to the Department of Pharmacy Practice Chairperson and faculty for course administration. She provides administrative supervision of daily activities including management of programs, budgetary finances, contracts, policies and procedures as well as provides administrative support to the Office of Experiential Education. Mrs. Ganier also serves as Co-Chair of the College of Pharmacy Marketing Committee.  She is currently studying Business Administration at Chicago State University.

Mrs. Ganier has collectively over 8 years experience in the areas of customer service, payroll, human resource, budgets, clerical and administrative support services. 

Mrs. Ganier is a current member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) and Student In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Alumni.

 

Tamaria ThomasTamaria Thomas, B.S. is the Administrative Assistant (extra help) for the Chicago State University College of Pharmacy-Office of Experiential Education.  Ms. Thomas holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Management from Chicago State University in 2007 and was also a member of the Business Honors Laboratory Program.  Ms. Thomas served as a Program Coordinator and Test Prep Instructor at the University of Chicago for over 10 years helping Chicago land area elementary and high school students’ transition, graduate and obtain a college degree. She also worked as an Administrator and Liaison within the Chicago Public Schools.  Ms. Thomas joined the College of Pharmacy in 2011.

 

Kalea WhitmoreKalea Whitmore, MBA, BS, CPhT is the Experiential Education Program Specialist at Chicago State University College of Pharmacy (CSU-COP).  She also serves as a member of the College of Pharmacy Faculty and Staff Development Committee.  Ms. Whitmore obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Tennessee State University, and later obtained a Master of Business Administration concentrating in Health Services Management from Keller Graduate School of Management. She has been a PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician for eight years.

Prior to joining Chicago State University, Ms. Whitmore worked for the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy in the Professional Affairs Department.  While at NABP, she also worked in the DMEPOS Accreditation Department and supported other areas of the organization.  Ms. Whitmore has experience as a part-time Pharmacy Technician Instructor for Everest College and as a certified pharmacy technician for CVS Caremark Corporation.  She has experience in community/retail pharmacy as well.
