HIA

Department of Health Information Administration

The Department of Health Information Administration (HIA) at Chicago State University offers a Bachelor of Science degree and a post-baccalaureate certificate program in health information administration for applicants with a bachelor’s degree. The program prepares graduates for employment as health information administrators in hospitals, clinics, health agencies, health information systems, medical research programs or other health-related organizations.

Accreditation / Professional Certification

The health information administration program at Chicago State University is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) located at 233 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 2150; Chicago, IL 60601-5800. The AHIMA telephone number is (312) 233-1100.

Graduates of the HIA program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the Commission on Certification of AHIMA. After successful completion of this exam, an individual becomes a registered health information administrator (RHIA).
