As an individual, I have grown in numerous ways. I have developed the ability to deliver a properly prepared lesson and I have also expanded my perspective globally. Through my participation in the program I was extended the opportunity to teach in South Africa as part of an exchange program. I felt prepared to meet the challenge of teaching abroad because of the training that I received in the Field Based program.
The Field Based Teacher Preparation program was one of the most enriching and fulfilling experiences of my undergraduate career. The program not only afforded me the opportunity to apply my coursework knowledge in a classroom setting before student teaching, but it also allowed me to discover and develop my own style of teaching. The program is structured such that interns and student teachers are paired with master teachers. As such, the student intern is allowed to observe veteran teachers in real life settings and situations. Having an experienced teacher observe me as I delivered instruction and receiving constructive feedback helped me tremendously.
Further, Chicago State University program instructors are an important part of the program’s success. Field Based students are held to high standards. The instructors provide the support and room for growth that is needed to produce excellent educators. Having constructive personalized relationships with instructors has been an added benefit to the program. The instructors are committed to disseminating important content knowledge, such as planning and delivering instruction, assessing students and dealing with special needs. The program has helped me to become more reflective in terms of my personal and professional character. This program covers it all; they truly live up to preparing real world teachers to teach in a real world.
