The Graduate Programs in Education Department fulfills the mission and vision of the university and the goals of the College of Education by preparing educational personnel to (1) to serve in educational organizations and related public and private agencies and institutions; (2) to engage in research and development activities; and (3) to provide service to the community, university and professional groups. Its primary purpose is to provide initial and advanced teacher and school personnel programs. The departments offers the following graduate degree programs:
- Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Administration is to prepare individuals for educational administrative and supervisory positions. In addition, the program also prepares graduates for professional opportunities associated with higher education entry and mid-level administrative research positions.
- Master of Arts. in Educational Leadership and Administration which prepares individuals for educational administrative and supervisory positions at the middle management level. In addition, the program also prepares graduates for professional opportunities associated with higher education entry and mid level administrative or research positions.
- Master of Science in Education Degree in Special Education. Completion of the degree qualifies candidates for the K-12, Illinois Standard Learning Behavior Specialist I certificate.
In addition to the above graduate programs, the department assists in providing oversight for the following graduate programs:
- Master of Science in Education degree in Physical Education. Students may select one of two options leading to the degree: 1) the research option with two areas of emphasis and 2) the teacher education option emphasizing teaching. Both options require a thesis.
- Graduate Reading program offers the Master of Science in Education in the Teaching of Reading. In addition, the reading program serves undergraduate and graduate students in meeting the reading standards across all units of the College of Education and provides an opportunity for candidates and teachers to earn credits that may lead towards a reading endorsement.
All graduate programs require a master's thesis/project. |
