The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership
Program Goal
The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at Chicago State University is an innovative, cohort-based, practitioner-oriented program with a curriculum and schedule designed around the lives of working adults. The program is designed to prepare individuals for:
- Educational and administrative positions at all levels of leadership (*for students who already hold the Illinois Type 75 Certificate, the program may also lead to the Illinois Superintendent’s endorsement), and
- Professional opportunities associated with teaching and research positions in higher education.
Approved by
- The Illinois Board of Higher Education on June 8, 2004.
- The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools on April 27, 2005, and
- Illinois State Board of Education to offer the Type 75 Certificate/Superintendent Endorsement on February 2, 2007.
Structure
- Cohort Model (two courses in Fall; two courses in Spring; and two courses in Summer). First cohort started in Fall 2005.
- Application Deadline: March 31of each year. Admission for Fall Term only.
Admissions Requirements
- Master’s Degree in educational administration or *related educational field, with a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in all graduate work.
- *Applicants with a Master’s Degree in a related educational field must have taken at least a 3-hour graduate course with a grade of “B” or better from an accredited institution in each of the following areas: 1) educational law; 2) curriculum development and learning theories; 3) foundations of finance; and 4) educational administration or organizational dynamics.
- Test: GRE-General Test (verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing components taken within past five years).
- Application Fee: $50 non-refundable.
- Others*: three letters of recommendation; a goal statement; two official sets of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
- *Note: In addition, International Students must request the International Student Supplemental Packet from the Graduate School.
