The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership

Program Goal
The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership at Chicago State University is an innovative, cohort-based, practitioner-oriented program with a curriculum and schedule designed around the lives of working adults. The program is designed to prepare individuals for:

  1. Educational and administrative positions at all levels of leadership (*for students who already hold the Illinois Type 75 Certificate, the program may also lead to the Illinois Superintendent’s endorsement), and
  2. Professional opportunities associated with teaching and research positions in higher education.

Approved by

  1. The Illinois Board of Higher Education on June 8, 2004.
  2. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association (NCA) of Colleges and Schools on April 27, 2005, and
  3. Illinois State Board of Education to offer the Type 75 Certificate/Superintendent Endorsement on February 2, 2007.  

Structure

  • Cohort Model (two courses in Fall; two courses in Spring; and two courses in Summer). First cohort started in Fall 2005.
  • Application Deadline: March 31of each year. Admission for Fall Term only.  

Admissions Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in educational administration or *related educational field, with a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in all graduate work.
  • *Applicants with a Master’s Degree in a related educational field must have taken at least a 3-hour graduate course with a grade of “B” or better from an accredited institution in each of the following areas: 1) educational law; 2) curriculum development and learning theories; 3) foundations of finance; and 4) educational administration or organizational dynamics.
  • Test: GRE-General Test (verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing components taken within past five years).
  • Application Fee: $50 non-refundable.
  • Others*: three letters of recommendation; a goal statement; two official sets of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts.  
  • *Note: In addition, International Students must request the International Student Supplemental Packet from the Graduate School.
