Observation Hours in CM/LIB Classes
The course sequence for the Master’s Degree/Type 10 Certificate will offer you the opportunity to observe 55 hours in school libraries. These hours are attached to various classes. For example, CM 400 will allow you to gain 10 observation hours. You must complete a standard form and have it signed by your instructor. Your instructor may give you further instructions for these hours. Please follow them! Also, make an extra copy of all your sign-in sheets so that you have a personal record of the 50 observation hours in an elementary setting, and the 50 hours in a high school setting for graduation. (The copy is more legible than the yellow sheet meant for student records.)

Observation Hours in 398G
If you follow the course sequence for the Type 10 Certificate/Master’s Degree, you will earn 55 observation hours. This means you will need to register for 398G in your last term to earn 45 hours in order to complete the full 100 hours. This course is a pass/fail class for one credit hour. Dr. Gomez administers this program. Here are the instructions.
1. Use the syllabus (available to registered students in BlackBoard) for a description of the areas you must cover during your observation. Your journal will reflect these required areas.
2. Collect and complete the log-in form. This form can be collected from the office door ED 235. The log-in form will match the journal and be initialed by the LMC professional in charge.
3. Complete a typed journal explaining your activities on-site, broken down on a day-by-day basis.
4. Have a letter written on school letterhead sent to me by your immediate on-site supervisor stating satisfactory completion of the appropriate number of hours.
5. Two items, the set of sign in forms (you will have to scan/digitize them) and the journal are to be posted in a single Livetext document. It is imperative that these be turned in as one Livetext document that is submitted to me as a reviewer. This Livetext document will allow me to grade your 398G work and it will allow Teacher Certification to notify the state of your successful completion of Observation hours.
6. The sign-in sheet and journal are due in Livetext, while print versions of these two items and the letter are due in My Office, ED 235, on the first day of the last week (the week before finals) of the semester you registered for 398G.
