Additional Program Information
Completion of the P.E. master’s degree does not lead to teacher certification. The master's degree does not certify a graduate to teach in the public schools. For information about teacher certification or physical education endorsements, contact the
Office of Teacher Certification at 773-995-2519.
Students may take a maximum of 12 hours as a Graduate at Large Student before they must apply to the program.
Students admitted January 2008 and after are only allowed two C grades. Any courses with C grades beyond the minimum of two, must be retaken for a higher grade in order to graduate from the program.
No D grades are accepted. Any course for which a student earned a D must be repeated for a higher grade (this grade, however, cannot be a C if the student already has 2 C grades as stated above).
A maximum of 6 hrs may be transferred from another university. All transfer courses must have a grade of B or better.
- Potential transfer courses taken prior to admission must be approved at the time of admission to be counted towards the degree. Approval must be granted by the department and the Graduate School Dean. To gain the Dean's approval, an extra original transcript must accompany the application for admission.
- Potential transfer courses taken after admission must first be approved by the student's advisor and the Graduate School Dean. Students must submit the “Permission to Take Transfer Hours” form and all supporting materials.
As of fall 2003 Drivers Training Courses (formerly HS 350G, HS 410 and HS 411) will not be accepted as electives. Any student admitted prior to summer 2003 is not affected and can still use these courses. Students admitted summer 2003 and after cannot use these courses.
All courses (including transfer courses) must be 6 years old or less at the time of graduation.
