Students who are considering the possibility of becoming a physics teacher are invited to become PhysTEC Fellows at CSU.  We want you to make an informed decision about whether teaching is for you.  As a PhysTEC Fellow you will gain a better understanding of what it’s like to be a teacher.

As a level 1 PTF’s, you will work as learning assistants in either the Physics I or II courses or our new Physical Science for Everyday Thinking (PSET) course designed for potential elementary and middle school teachers.

PFTs will meet with the teaching faculty to discuss pedagogical techniques, common student misconceptions, the conceptual sequence of the upcoming lesson, and reflect on previous lessons.

Level 1 PTF’s  will be enrolled in a 2 credit Teaching Immersion Institute (TII).  In the TII you will have the oppurtunity to be involved in an early teaching experience where you will work directly with inservice teachers and their students in a low stress, highly supportive environment.

PTF’s who have done well and continue to show an interest in pursuing the teaching profession, will be invited to participate as level 2 PTF’s.  As a Level 2 PTF’s you will again be involved as a learning assistants in order to further refine your inquiry teaching skills.  In addition, part of your time will involve education research projects focusing on either the introductory physics classes or the PSET classes working closely with either Dr. Sabella or Dr. Van Duzor.  In this role as an education researcher, you will be given an opportunity to revisit and relearn important physics content knowledge.  As a level 2 PTF’s, you will also be invited to attend a conference where you will present your research and attend workshops and sessions.

We invite students from the Community Colleges and CSU to apply for these positions.  If you know your physics and have an interest in teaching we want you to apply.
