Prospective Students in Chemistry and Physics

Welcome to the web site for our undergraduate programs in Chemistry and Physics. Are you considering a career in the health fields or perhaps hope to conduct research in fuel cells, solar energy, or science education, teach high school science, or simply love physics or chemistry? Our undergraduate program is an excellent preparation for medical school, pharmacy school, graduate school, and provides you the opportunity to explore your interests in the physical sciences. Following is some information that you might find valuable in applying to CSU.

Prospective Students in High School

Please take some time to explore our web site and see what courses our current undergraduates are taking, what research opportunities they have and the student clubs that they run and belong to.

You should plan to visit campus and speak to an advisor during Summer Registration.

All incoming students are required to take placement exams in mathematics, reading, and composition.  These placement exams must be completed before registration for any science course.  The department offers a study guide that significantly improves scores on the math placement exam so consider stopping by BEFORE you take the exam to pick up the study guide.

Prospective Transfer Students

Transfer students without an A.A. degree are only allowed to transfer a maximum of 66 credit hours.  Transfer students are required to take all placement exams (even if you have completed calculus and the two semesters of writing).  Please feel free to call and talk to an advisor about what will and will not transfer. Click here to sign up for an appointment through the chemistry advising website.  If you want to meet with a physics advisor, contact the department office (773-995-2180) to be connected to the advisor on duty.

Transfer students with an A.A., A.S., or A.A.S. degree are not required to complete any additional general education requirements before graduation.
