The College of Arts and Sciences Office of the Dean wishes to thank Campus Support for our renovations!

I wish to give the highest accolades possible to the skilled men and women of Facilities Planning & Management, CSU Campus Carpenters, Painters, Movers, Property Control, Electricians and the Locksmith who contributed to making our classrooms and common areas more functional, comfortable and beautiful for the College of Arts & Sciences.  The Electricians created power for all Smart Boards and Ceiling Mounted Projectors in HWH, SCI and BHS, a total of 28 Projectors and 15 Smart Boards.  Shipping and Receiving delivered countless boxes promptly and cheerfully.  The Carpenters installed all of these items, not to mention the 30 White Boards and 28 podia that were assembled.  They assembled tables and chairs for 9 classrooms this month alone for a total of 117 computer desks and 234 chairs.  Six classrooms were completed in one weekend before the first summer session started on Monday morning.  The movers were on hand to move all of the old furniture out and the new furniture in.  The old furniture that was still usable was not discarded but moved to other classrooms in Douglas Hall, Science and BHS.  Five classrooms in Douglas Hall, one in BHS and one in Science benefited from the old furniture.  The movers ensured that each classroom had matching furniture.  The old furniture dating back to the eighties was moved to Property Control to be discarded. A total of 21 out of 22 non-lab classrooms in HWH have the new double desk/task chair configuration.  The locksmith installed 30 padlocks on the podia that houses the technology for each classroom.  After a theft back in December, he changed all 30 padlocks again.  The carpenters installed lock boxes in all classrooms in HWH and Science that have podia containing electronics to keep our technology secure.

The Carpenters assembled all the Charging Stations that are all over campus that the students used excessively.  Most of the stations have broken charging heads because of extreme usage.  They are scheduled to replace the cable and charging heads with cable that is longer and sturdier on all 32 charging stations on campus.  The painters gave us fresh paint jobs to upgrade our new look and they also sanded and refinished all of our wooden handrails that were blackened with age and dirt.  All 3 common areas in HWH have new computer desks and lounge chairs for comfortable and functional study areas that were absolutely dismal before.  (See 2B and 3C Before pictures).  Common Area furniture for Science is being assembled right now.  All in all, each and every Classroom and all of the Student Lounge Areas under the College of Arts and Sciences now have an appealing new look, comfortable and accommodating seating and state of the art technology.  For the finishing touch, the greenhouse will provide plants for the Student Lounge Areas and the Art & Design Department will provide pictures and posters for the walls.  On behalf of the Deans Office of the College of Arts and Sciences, I wish to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication to this effort.  It has taken an entire year to complete this project but it was well worth the effort because the students of Chicago State are more than deserving of a modern, appealing and comfortable learning environmentThanks to Rochelle Greene for making the many furniture selections, purchases and for managing this project.  Thanks to Purchasing and Accounts Payable for pushing our orders through impossible deadlines and for paying our bills!  Thank you all for providing exceptional and dedicated service toward this endeavor.
