FORMER BASEBALL PLAYER EDDIE HUGHES, JR. PASSES AWAY

Chicago, Ill. - The extended family of the Chicago State Athletic Department was deeply saddened early Wednesday, after learning of the passing of former CSU baseball team captain Eddie Hughes Jr..

"Not only was Eddie Hughes an outstanding baseball player, he was also an outstanding individual who bled the Cougar green and white", said assistant athletic director Sudie Davis. " "On behalf of the entire Cougar family, we offer our deepest sympathy".

Hughes, an outstanding defensive player, starred for the Cougars from 1975-1978, and finished his collegiate career with a .413 batting average.

Visitation will take place on Friday, Jan. 9 at the Gatling Funeral Home (10133 S. Halsted St.) in Chicago between 4 p.m.-10 p.m. The wake will take place Saturday, Jan. 10, between 9 a.m.-10 a.m. followed by Funeral services at 10 a.m..


CHICAGO STATE REMOVES INTERIM TAG FROM MAHMOUD

Chicago, Ill. – Chicago State University’s athletic department announced Tuesday afternoon that Husain Mahmoud will remain the head coach of CSU’s baseball team. He succeeds Vern Hasty, who led the Cougars for two seasons. (more)
