November 21, 2007

CHICAGO, Ill. – Chicago State guard David Holston (Pontiac, Mich.) was named Division I Independent Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Cougars to a 2-1 record during the week.

Holston averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and six assist in four games last week for Chicago State.

In a loss against Cal-State Northridge, he finished with 29 points, hitting 6-11 from three point land, five rebounds, four steals, in only 19 minutes of playing time.

He scored 18 points, pulled down five rebounds, five assist and two steals against #12 Michigan State in the CBE Classic. A day later Holston led the Cougars to an 89-50 victory over Northern Michigan, as he scored a season-high 39 points, shot 13-16 from the field, was on fire from behind the arc hitting 11-of-13 three pointers, and dished out seven assist.

His 11 three-pointers were the 13th most three pointers made in a game in NCAA history, and also broke the single game record for the Breslin Center (MSU). His 39 points was the 4th most ever scored in the Breslin Center, and also broke the CBE Classic record for points in a game.

On Saturday, Holston led Chicago State to an 81-60 win over Binghamton University. He scored a game-high 20 points while dishing out 7 assist.

For the season Holston is 8th nationally in ppg (26.5), 2nd in three-point field goals made (25), 2nd in three-point percentage (61%), and is 19-20 (95%) from the charity stripe.

The Independent Player of the Week is nominated and voted upon weekly by the sports information departments of each of the 10 NCAA independent basketball schools.
